Robin and I are in transition. We sold our townhouse and moved all our belongings into storage. We plan to move back into a house that we have been renting out for the last 11 years and the tenants asked to delay their exit til the first of the month. So we are currently homeless and in transition, exploring and praying and seeking to discern what God has for our next assignment.I suggested to Robin that we take advantage of Southwest Airline’s cheap flights to Cabo, Mexico. All I wanted was some time to sleep and read and dream about the future.Being in Cabo, we witness huge cruise ships dropping off hundreds of people who have retired into self-absorbed inactivity, lounging at the pool, deepening the tan, while sipping a margarita at the infinity pool.

C. S. Lewis in The Weight of Glory, writes, “We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

We believe that our greatest joy comes from serving the King and collecting kingdom fruit than souvenirs and seashells and deep tissue massages.Sadly, too few Christians are experiencing joy. Often it is because we are looking for it in all the wrong places, maintaining our stuff, dusting furniture, pursuing elusive pleasure and fortune to pass the time.Nothing wrong with taking a break, getting away from the grind to regroup and reassess what is important. Jesus retreated to a mountain to pray.At the end of the day, our joy comes as we report for duty, serving Jesus wherever we are and through whatever our hand finds to do.
