The Path to Simplicty
In "Church Unique," Will Mancini quotes from Oliver Wendell Holmes:
"I would not give a fig for simplicity on this side of complexity, but I would give my life for simplicity on the other side of complexity."
It is only after we wrestle with complexity that we can appreciate and value simplicity. Simplicity is meaningless if it is shallow and empty. Simplicity that is forged out of complexity is priceless. This kind of simplicity is a choice in the midst of all the distractions. It is the type of simplicity we need today where distractions are exponential. Fewer and finer commitments is the path of a life well lived, having worked through the complexity to arrive at what is most profound and meaningful.Paul the Apostle highlighted this principle:
Philippians 3:13 (ESV) ...But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
"One thing I do," not "these forty things I dabble at."
